How to make that small room appear larger than it really is
Try these expert tricks.
Reflect. “Strategically placed mirrors can visually double a space,” says interior designer Alison Vance. Place side by side, floor to ceiling or facing each other on opposite walls to create an infinity effect.
Space out artwork. Start at the floor and measure 144cm up the wall. The centre of your art or photo should hang on that mark. Why it works: 144cm is roughly eye height for most people, which opens up more space above the work, making the room seem taller.
Get clever with colour. Try painting three walls a light colour with one wall in a dark, contrasting colour. This will extend the look of the space. Note that cools colours recede and warm colours advance.
